Portland Museum Open Day – Saturday 7th June
We are inviting the community to Portland Museum on Saturday 7th June for our open day! From 10:30am – 1pm, Come in and meet some of our team and see what a day in the life of Portland Museum is like! Interested in volunteering at the museum? This is the perfect opportunity to come and say hello and find out more about the roles we have.
Since 1930, Portland Museum has been run by the community. The people of Portland were given the museum as a testament to the Island’s rich history, and the local community has kept its doors open to the public ever since!
We will also have ‘Dorset Songs of Stone’ From 1pm – 2pm there will be Quarry and Stone Conversations at the museum in the stone room/ garden Discussion Cafes to share memories and stories of Portland quarries and stone workers and life on the island in lived experience.
And to end the day, we are hosting SHARED READINGS of Portland Poets in the garden from 2-3pm.
All are welcome! and FREE hot drinks served throughout the day.
