Portland Museum Thatched Roof Repair Appeal
by Portland Museum
There are two wonderful thatched buildings that make up part of the Portland Museum. One dates to the 1680’s and the ‘younger’ one, to about 1730. Thatched roofs are always in need of maintenance and care and just at the moment we need to undertake an urgent repair to one roof in particular and the estimate for this work is approaching £6,000. Most of the income that the museum generates through admissions is spent on maintaining the valuable collection of artefacts and paying utility bills so there is little left for repairs to the roof etc. Any donations you make will be ring-fenced specifically and exclusively towards the thatch repair.
