by Portland Museum
On Thursday 20th June 2024 at the Annual Awards of the Weymouth and Portland Civic Society
attended by the Mayors of Portland, Weymouth and Chickerell, Portland Museum was presented
with the first Annual Award specifically for Heritage for their ‘Diving into the Digital Archives of the
Earl of Abergavenny’ project which was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop
digital skills in the Heritage Sector. The award was presented by CEO of the Nothe Fort, James
Farquharson and Chairman of the Weymouth Civic Society, Chris Moyle to Portland Museum who
were represented by David Carter, Angela Scott, Stella New and Lucy Watkins.
Portland Museum was supported in the project by their partners, the Nautical Archaeology Society
and MSDS Marine and their wonderful team of volunteers led by Project Manager, Lucy Watkins.
After winning the Society of Museum Archaeology’s ‘‘Volunteering Award category” last year, it was an honour to accept this award from the Weymouth Civic Society.
Both accolades are huge testaments to the hard work that was put into the project by the amazing team of volunteers. Portland Museum wanted to extend our gratitude and thanks for all of your work and dedication to this project.
