Volunteer Digital Skills Manual Now Available
by Portland Museum
Portland Museum is delighted to announce that its Volunteer Manual for Digitising Museum Collections is now available to view online and download for free.
As part of the National Lottery funded Diving Into the Digital Archives of the Earl of Abergavenny project, our partners, the Nautical Archaeology Society, (NAS) and MSDS Marine, with help from our volunteers, have produced this wonderful training manual for use across the heritage sector.
The manual covers the three core skills and techniques volunteers have developed and used to digitally document the Earl of Abergavenny collection: 3D digital modelling and sharing; recording to Modes collection management system; condition assessing and recording.
We hope this document will help other heritage organisations to digitally record and share their collections using our tried and tested method. We’ve had a lot of fun and gained a tremendous sense of achievement from recording our shipwreck collection and sharing it with audiences worldwide.
Do follow this link to view the manual and download a copy for free. If you’d like either a colour or a b+w printer friendly pdf version then scroll to the bottom of this page to download, again for free.
