Portland Museum is delighted to be a part of Wessex Museum’s ‘Thomas Hardy: The landscapes that inspired a writer’ exhibitition.

From 28th May to 30th October, visitors will have the opportunity to delve deeper into Thomas Hardy’s story at participating museums and visitor centres across Dorset and Wiltshire, of which Portland Museum is one.
One of the 18th century cottages that forms a part of Portland Museum is Avice’s Cottage. The cottage was named after Hardy set it as the fictional home of Avice Caro from The Well-Beloved.
Portland Museum looks forward to sharing a vital part of one of Hardy’s lesser known novels with visitors to the ‘Isle of Slingers’.
