Earl of Abergavenny collection viewing day
by Portland Museum
The volunteers of Portland Museum’s Diving into the Digital Archives of the Earl of Abergavenny project spent a fantastic day viewing the shipwreck collection.
A sunny spring day at the museum was made all the more enjoyable by the eclectic array of objects on display, accompanied by the remarkable Earl of Abergavenny shipwreck digital archive put together by the late marine archaeologist, Ed Cumming.
On hand to help volunteers explore the collection were David Carter and Stella New, who both brought the lives of the people involved in the Earl of Abergavenny so much closer with their superlative knowledge and vivid descriptions of life onboard ship during this fascinating period of history.
The volunteers will soon begin recording the finds from the Earl of Abergavenny to the museum’s catalogue as well as uploading 3D images of the collection to Sketchfab. The display of 3D images will be embedded into this website so do check back here soon to view the collection.
