Preserving our Pictures
by Portland Museum
Here at Portland Museum our crack squad of volunteers are busy transferring our image collection to new, museum spec albums. The work has been made possible by funding from the general public, Portland Court Leet, and the amazing, 8 year old Aria Heals-Taylor, who completed a 50km bike ride for us back in October 2021. We’d like to say a big thank you to all parties for donations that will ensure our lovely photos and postcards will be preserved for generations to come.
This wonderful work was kick started by volunteer, Charlie Cross. During the summer of 2021, Charlie began recording our image collection to enable us to better search for photos that members of the public would enquire about. During the work, Charlie noticed that many of our photo albums were degrading and endangering the integrity of the images inside them. So, we began a fundraising campaign to raise money for quality, museum spec housing for the images. We were supported by members of the public, Portland Court Leet and Aria Heals-Taylor. Huge thanks go out to all our supporters!
